You may recall that in 2007, we made a significant upgrade to our brainstorming ideas on segmenting customers by need. This upgrade was the result of nearly two years of work. It produced several hundred ideas and over four thousand examples. For some of you, the question of segmentation by need may not require that much information and work. For you, we have written a Perspective entitled “Customer Segmentation: Finding the Human Dimension”. In this Perspective we reduce the task of segmenting customers by need to finding answers to fifteen questions. We illustrate the answers to these fifteen questions with many examples drawn from our database.
